March Devlog!

Hello there, snowdrifts!

Tea for Two Game Studios welcomes you to our first general update! We’re happy to say that Love Like Ice’s development is proceeding smoothly, and are writing this devlog to give everyone a general update as well as a peek into our development process!

Love Like Ice is split into two Acts, the first of which being our demo! We had originally planned to develop both Acts of the game in time for Winter Visual Novel Jam, however, due to time constraints, we decided to focus solely on Act One, as Act One is significantly shorter than Act Two.

To further ease development after the jam period, we decided to split Act Two into two parts. By splitting this longer section of the game into two sections, the project becomes more manageable for all involved. Act Two – Part One contains the middle of the story, while Part Two will focus on the various endings.

We will not be releasing Act Two – Part One as a new demo, instead opting to release the full game once it has been fully realized.

So! What have we been up to?

  • Creating new CGs
  • Adding a new background
  • Revamping our music track and adding new ones
  • Implementing new sprites!

-implementing new sprites!

Before we implement our script into Ren’Py, we build Love Like Ice in Twine. We do this to create a clear visual for all our options and the branches they create. The Twine is built in tandem with the script and looks a little something like this!

While all the arrows can get a little confusing, it is leaps and bounds clearer than trying to format these kinds of choices in Google Docs! Currently, Love Like Ice has a total of one-hundred and eight Twine passages, with only forty of them featured in the demo.

As we get lines from our two amazingly talented voice actors, we use the Tags function in Twine to mark off what passages have been recorded. We also utilize Line Bibles in order to keep track of every line in the game and make Ren’Py implementation easier!

The other week, our wonderful voice actors finished up reading their new batch of lines for Act One – Part One! If you haven’t already, be sure to check out more of Maya and Tyler’s work!

We are so excited by the positive reception to Love Like Ice’s demo! We appreciate the positive comments, reviews, and playthroughs! To stay up to date on future updates, make sure to follow our account here on itch, as well as on Twitter (Or X, if you call it that). Your support means the world to us, and we cannot thank each and every one of you enough for your engagement with Love Like Ice!

Sincerely,

Celeste and Mizerable
